The Vanishing Hitchhiker

On a deserted highway shrouded in darkness, Mark drove home after a long day at work. As he rounded a bend, he spotted a figure standing by the roadside, thumb outstretched, seeking a ride. Mark, feeling a pang of sympathy, slowed down and pulled over.

The hitchhiker, a young woman with sorrowful eyes, climbed into the passenger seat without a word. Mark tried to strike up a conversation, but she remained eerily silent. After a few miles, Mark glanced away for a moment, and when he looked back, the seat beside him was empty. The hitchhiker had vanished into thin air, leaving behind only a faint chill in the air.

Shaken to the core, Mark Mark continued his journey, his mind reeling with disbelief. As he reached the outskirts of town, he saw a memorial by the roadside, adorned with flowers and photographs. His blood ran cold when he recognized the face of the hitchhiker—it was the same woman he had picked up earlier, forever trapped in the realm between the living and the dead.
